How do I get pineapple slices?
I use to consider slicing a pineapple a chore. I tried out all the different slicing techniques but was left with a counter top full of pineapple juice, uneven slices and lots of waste. Not only is the Zulay Kitchen pineapple corer slicer fun to use but it fast, leaves the pineapple slices without a peel, takes the core out and produces even slices. Clean up is easier and I look forward to slicing pineapples.
How to choose and pick out the best pineapple?
Have you ever gotten home from the grocery store and cut into a piece of fruit and then be truly disappointed? If you want to enjoy the luscious mouthwatering sweet bites of pineapple, you want to make sure you have a fresh and ripe pineapple. I have developed and acronym to help you pick out the best pineapple, PINE.
P-Press on the pineapple gently. The pineapple should be firm but have a little give to it. It should not feel too mushy or as hard as a rock.
I-“I cant lift it.” A heavy pineapple is said to be juicy and ripe.
N-Nose. The pineapple should have a sweet smell at the base of the fruit. If the pineapple has no smell it may not be ripe and if it has a sour smell it may be rotten.
E-Even. The pineapple should be green with a golden yellow color all the way around. The leaves should be even in color with strong green leaves on top.
What are the benefits of pineapple?
Pineapples are a delicious fruit loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Per WebMD, pineapples contain vitamin C, manganese, vitamin B6 and enzymes that may help with digestive health.
Vitamin C is well known for its immune boosting properties. Per WebMD, one cup of pineapple has more than 100% of your daily value of vitamin C.
Not only this, but pineapple is touted to have anti-inflammatory benefits making it a great post-workout recovery snack.
Can I use canned pineapple slices?
Canned pineapple slices are a great option to use in the recipe. I prefer fresh pineapple slices but canned works as well. Canned pineapple slices are convenient and will give you even pineapple slices quickly.
